Life Groups

Life Groups are a chance for the church to be the church. They are uniquely focused on growing you, as an individual, into who God wants you to be. We consider Life Groups one of our most important ministries and a great way to get plugged into Southern Hills. Life Groups are a casual environment where you can develop real and lasting relationships with others who are growing in Christ. At Southern Hills we regularly discuss biblical life change and we believe that Life Groups help accomplish this in the lives of our members. Child care is provided.

What you can expect at Life Groups:

Our goals for Life Groups:

  • To help you grow in a deeper knowledge of God and His will for your life
  • To help you develop authentic relationships with other genuine believers

Sharing with One Another

The most important aspect of our Life Groups is the encouragement and personal accountability that they provide. Life Groups will provide a setting where we can be open and honest with one another about our spiritual growth. We know that we are all sinners and will struggle with sin until we see Jesus face to face. God has given us one another so that we can help each other grow into the image of Christ.

Focusing on Growth

We will be working through books on Christian growth. They will vary on topics, but they will be relevant to each believer. The reading we will be done between small group meetings so significant points can be discussed when we get together. We will work hard to apply what we have learned to our lives.

The Bible's Call for Life Groups

The Bible calls on us to live and grow together, but it is hard to do that if we only see each other during a weekly worship service. Life Groups seek to fill the gap. Here are some of the “one another” commands from the Bible that we desire to have lived out in our small groups:

  • Love one another (1 John 3:23)
  • Clothe yourself in humility towards one another (1 Peter 5:5)
  • Be hospitable to one another (1 Peter 4:9)
  • Serve one another (1 Peter 4:10)
  • Build up one another (Rom 14:19)
  • Forgive one another (Col 3:13)
  • Do good unto one another (1 Thess 5:15)
  • Comfort one another (1 Thess 4:18)
  • Encourage one another (1 Thess 5:11)
  • Bear one another’s burdens (Gal 6:1-2)
  • Esteem one another more than self (Phil 2:3)
  • Admonish one another (Rom 15:14)
  • Care for one another (1 Cor 12:25)

While these “one another” commands don’t need a formal church setting to be lived out, we recognize that it helps to have a setting that will encourage them. The culture that is learned in Life Groups is one that should bleed over into all aspects of life at Southern Hills.
