Matthew Breeden

I was born and raised in Abilene, Texas. I had the privilege of growing up in a family that loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. By God's grace I accepted the gift of salvation at an early age and throughout my childhood I grew in my love for the Lord and the local church.

After graduating from Abilene High School in 2001 I moved to Springfield, Missouri to attend Baptist Bible College. After graduation I remained in Springfield to attend Baptist Bible Graduate School.

While in college I met the love of my life, Michelle, and we were married on August 2, 2008. Michelle was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and she came to know the Lord as a teenager. Michelle graduated from Baptist Bible College in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education.

I have always had a passion for the ministry of the local church and I can't think of anything more exciting than church planting and pastoring. I pray that God will receive the glory through my life and ministry.

A Few More Things . . .

How do you enjoy spending your free time?

There are many things that I enjoy doing in my free time, but my favorite things are probably the simplest. I love spending time just hanging out with my friends and family. Give me a cup of coffee and good conversation and I will be content for hours.

What are five books that helped shape the way you think?

  1. God's Word
  2. Pursuit of Holiness - Jerry Bridges
  3. The Discipline of Grace - Jerry Bridges
  4. Knowing God - J.I. Packer
  5. The Holiness of God - R.C. Sproul
  6. Systematic Theology - Wayne Grudem
  7. How People Change - Paul Tripp and Tim Lane
  8. Brothers We Are Not Professionals - John Piper

(Sorry, that's more than five)

What are your favorite sports teams?

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Texas Rangers
  • Anything University of Texas (especially Longhorn Football)

If you only have five minutes on the web, what websites do you visit?

  • I cannot get online without checking my email.
  • Facebook

(Why would I only have five minutes on the web, I have an iPhone?)

What is your favorite fast food joint?

Taco Bueno, without any hesitation or exceptions. I grew up a mile away from the original Bueno and I have always loved it. If you have never expereinced the joys of Bueno, allow me to make a meal suggestion that may change your life.

  • Mexi-Dip and Chips (as an appetizer, to be shared with a friend)
  • A Beef Muchaco
  • A Beef Potato Burrito
  • A Party Burrito

(All items should be eaten with a generous amount of Original Red Bueno Salsa)

What is your beverage of choice?

My favorite cold drink is Dr. Pepper. My favorite hot drink is coffee. For me coffee is a very simple drink. You can keep your fancy coffee and coffee substitutes, I am more than happy with a cup of Folgers, black.

What is your favorite passage of Scripture?

It is definitely hard to narrow it down to one, but I have always loved 1 Corinthians 15:58:

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

If you were to write a book, what would it be about?

I would definitely want to write about what I am the most passionate about, the local church and God's work of changing people's lives.

Why do you want to be a pastor?

I love the church and I love seeing how God uses the church to transform people's lives. There is nothing I want to do more than be involved with what God is doing through His church.

Where do you see yourself in twenty-five years?

In twenty five years I hope that I am serving as a pastor at Southern Hills Baptist Church. There is nothing I want to do more than live and grow alongside the people of Southern Hills. May God receive the glory.
